  Hall D Staff Meeting, September 16, 2019

    Announcements (Eugene)

  * Interviews are in progress for technical positions
  * Physicist position has not been advertised yet
  * New post-docs start Oct. 1, Igal Jaegle and Keigo Mizutani
      o Possible tasks include conducting launches, maintaining the
        TPOL, managing translation tables, working on the FCAL upgrade
  * Rik Yoshida is leaving the Lab for a position at Argonne
      o He will be replaced by a team consisting of Doug Higinbotham,
        Volker Burkert, and Christian Weiss
  * All money for FY19 has been spent


    Preparations for Upcoming Run

  * We will need a decision of using new firmware for FADC-250s (Sascha)
  * Trying new alcohol infusion system for the chamber gas, adding a
    heater to avoid condensation (Beni)
  * TOF being assembled in Hall (Eugene)
  * New mirrors for DIRC being developed, sandwich of layers, along with
    plan on how to protect them (Eugene)
      o 8 k$ has been spent on new mirrors
  * Magnet is full (Eugene)
  * We need decision on whether to include the start counter in the
    trigger. More study needed (Eugene)
  * Josh is fabricating TAC, will switch to CompCal after that (Sascha)
  * Vladimir Popov is redesigning the base
  * Testing with PS pairs:
      o Crystals, up to 12, with light guides, right side (looking
        downstream) (Sascha)
      o TRD/GEM will start near DIRC on floor and move to left side of
        PS in January (Lubomir)
  * Andrea [?] from Hall B will propose using positrons from the PS to
    search for dark matter, will bring in a new calorimeter (Elton)
  * Issues with the DAQ? Seems not (Sergey)
  * With ramdisk buffers, can write 3 GB/s to RAID (Sergey)
  * Raid5 schedule uncertain (David)
  * Data compression: always part of plan, some schemes tried, need
    system to test, need test done by mid-Oct. to have time to make
    decision before run (David)
  * Spring run from Jan. 10 to May 6 (Eugene)


    NIM paper

  * first draft due Sep. 24 (Elton)
