  Hall D Staff Meeting, September 30, 2019

Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey

    Announcements (Eugene)

  * FY20 budget: Senate markup shows $750 M$ for nuclear physics, but
    expect a continuing resolution
  * Safety: at end of Oct. enforcement team will form. Safety
    documentation requirement will be strictly enforced.
  * Disclosure of work compensation from foreign governments: broad
    definition, includes waiver of conference fees. Need to disclose any
    payment to management. Disclosure mechanism not yet in place.
  * Civility in the Workplace Training: coming up, look for an email.
    Takes about an hour, can be paused are restarted later.
  * Hall D Scientist position still not open for applicants.
  * Lab agenda retreat coming up[?]
  * Committee formed by DOE to make recommendation on EIC, including
    site. Decision will be taken by the Under Secretary.
  * Doug Higinbotham is now full time on JLEIC. Christian Weiss and
    Volker Burkert are each at half time.
  * Moller: CD1 expected by April 1, 5 M$ appears in Senate mark-up.
  * Solid: Director's Review positive, recommend moving to request for CD0.
  * Users' Meeting: June 22-24
  * Rolf Ent has requested plans for running from the Halls for FY2021.


    Activities in Hall (Tim, reported by Eugene)

  * DIRC: will replace all mirrors. Second box on submerged for short
    time, but because of mechanical considerations it too will be
    replaced. Mirror surfaces already here. Boro-silicate glass to be
    ordered.
  * TOF: fiducialized in Hall with counters in the frame. Ready for
    mounting.
  * Goniometer: surveyed in the lab, installed in tagger, survey in situ
    not done, waiting for diamonds to be installed.
  * CompCal waiting for bases.
  * TAC has damaged voltage divider. Fernando Barbosa is looking at it.

  * During DIRC run there will be a TRD/GEM detector in front of the
    lower box. DIRC folks want to try three positions for it.
  * Target: waiting on shield removal
  * Solenoid: testing of power supply, first step before power up,
    starts next week
  * Post-Docs
      o Igal Jaegle starts tomorrow
      o Keigo Mizutani should arrive in a day or two


    Other Items

  * The new NetApps appliance will be installed on Thu. All systems in
    the Counting Room will be rebooted. (David)
  * There will be an Employee Tour of Hall D Thu. afternoon. Mark and
    Thomas Britton will be the tour guides. (Eugene)
  * The dark matter experiment, which needs a positron beam, now prefers
    to run at CERN (Elton)
  * The grant application for the FCAL insert was turned down. The Lab
    will support construction funding. (Eugene)
  * CPP looks like it can fit into the FCAL dark room. CPP readiness
    review to come soon. Elton will give update at the collaboration
    meeting. (Eugene)
