Hall D Staff Meeting, June 14, 2021
Present: Alexander Austregesilo, Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Dalton,
Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, Igal Jaegle,
Keigo Mizutani, Lubomir Pentchev, Patrizia Rossi, Sascha Somov, Simon
Taylor, Tim Whitlatch, Beni Zihlmann
Announcements, Eugene
* Janet Prater is retiring at the end of June
o Stephanie will take up her duties
* Lab is in Medcon 4 now
o allowed to have 1/2 of personnel on site
o those that can work remotely should continue to do so
o one may be asked to work on-site by one's supervisor
* Budget: president's budget is out
o 10% increase in nuclear physics
o corresponds to 30 weeks of running
* KLF beamline design has started
o initial focus on collimator cave equipment
* new staff position
o committee selected 3 candidates
o emphasis on data analysis, especially partial wave analysis
o another position may open up soon: send ideas for needed skills
for such a candidate to Eugene
Activities in the Hall, Tim
* FCAL darkroom almost ready for light-tightening
* CPP gas for test in EEL ready to go
* Mods to platform for CPP stand underway in Hall
* Stand for CPP complete and will be delivered tomorrow
* four MWPC for CPP were delivered to the EEL
* working with Keith Harding on KLF design
* helium beampipe for PrimEx almost complete, some testing in TEDF to
be done
Other Items
* Eugene: DIRC mirrors are being remade, not need for upcoming run
o Tim: mirrors will be stored in the boxes without water, other
than for possible testing.
* Patrizia: when will testing of MWPCs begin?
o Beni: as soon as the OSP is approved, probably in two weeks
* Eugene: mods to PS for the test set-up contemplated
o GEMs in from of North[?] arm, project with UVA
o extend energy range to 3 to 10 GeV
o GEM detector 40 cm × 5 cm
o will run independent DAQ, no need for tagger read-out
o Tim vertical stage ordered for downstream detector support
o there will be 2 movable stages for detectors under test
* Sascha: survey of beam pipe at FCAL now that it is exposed since the
darkroom is dis-assembled?
o Tim: will try to schedule it
* Sascha: preparations for FCAL II
o procurement of crystals an issue
o module design in good shape
+ 30 have been fabricated
+ Chris Allen doing brazing on the brass strips
o two undergraduates would be nice for assembly tasks
o detector group involvement would be useful, will send request to
Patrizia
o ready to start production of modules
o focus on the CompCal at present
