  Hall D Staff Meeting, April 5, 2022


    Announcements, Eugene

  * Accelerator SAD work on track
      o beam in Hall starting in June
      o mid-April: CHL1 will go to 2K
  * HUGS will be in-person this year
  * New Lab Occupational Medicine physician on-board
  * New head of Tech Transfer for Lab on-board
  * Rusty Sprouse, head of Facilities, will retire in November
  * Run Around scheduled for May 25
  * Budget
      o still on CR spending basis, no big procurements allowed
      o FY22 looks good, President's FY23 has smaller increase
  * Accelerator power limits are under discussion
      o Main effect is on current limits for Halls A and C
      o proposal: increase to 1.1 MW from 0.9 MW
      o limit is administrative, not imposed by physical infrastructure
      o going to 2.0 MW attractive, but would require modification to
        the dumps
  * New Hall D positions
      o applications in for two positions
      o 5-6 candidates will be invited for interviews
      o Boris Grube has obtained his visa
  * Alex: status of requirements for on-site work?
      o Eugene: on-site work is allowed, but not required
      o expect announcement from Director's Office on new policy soon


    Work in Hall, Tim

  * we start Hot Check-Out in six weeks
  * finishing CPP installation
      o still need signal cables
      o will use 3×3 Crystal array for TAC
      o need helium bag inside CDC
      o target pieces fiducialized, install them near the end
  * chiller maintenance: replace some bad pressure gauges
  * beamline vacuum pump maintenance to be done
  * FCAL2 drawings getting finalized
  * K_L : target temperature calculations underway
  * dates for Hall PSS system checks not set yet


    CPP/NPP Preparations, Beni

  * MWPCs have been installed
      o first 3 chambers have been checked, some low-level noise to be
        addressed
      o missing most of the signal cables, first batch was due in last
        Friday, will check with Chris Stanislav on that
  * scintillator paddles are installed, but not cabled up
  * muon trigger using paddles not set-up yet
  * F125 CDC crate re-located for use with MWPCs
      o ethernet connected
      o still need fiber to connect TI to TS
  * additional CAEN TDC installed for scintillator channels
      o Sergey performed the needed firmware upgrade
      o Beni will adjust the least-count resisters, do the integrated
        non-linearity correction calibration


    FCAL2 Preparations, Eugene

  * modules are being produced a rate of about 30 per week
  * labor-intensive activity, students from various institutions have
    and will be involved


    JT2GO Demo

Tim invited us: Friday, April 8 1:00 pm on Teams (see your calendar entry).

Our Hall D Engineering co-op student (Anthony Palazzo) will be giving a 
demonstration of how to use free software to pull up 3D models of Hall D 
equipment and easily manipulate and measure things. Anthony and 
Stephanie have been working over the past few months to put this together.
