Mark,

The "events per file" spec for grid production is set by optimization of grid resources, and will be different from what is convenient to do on the jlab production system. Right now the ideal job time on the grid is 8 hours or so. Shorter jobs suffer from queuing inefficiency (waiting in line more than they run) and longer jobs start to suffer from pre-emption by higher-priority users. That puts my output segments at 50K events apiece. Of course, I can aggregate them in a separate pass later, but I am inclined not to. A 100MB file is about the right size, large enough to hide open/close overhead but small enough to maximize grid parallelism in later analysis stages.
