[Halld-offline] Fwd: [ecs-service] ECS Service Announcement

I forwarded this message to Andy Kowalski at JLab in the hope that he could send all of you an email to let you know what the lab’s response is. Unfortunately he can’t post to the working group so I’m sending for him…

All,

Jefferson Lab purchased BlueJeans to replace ESnet video conferencing services. You can not only do video, but also dial-in and share desktops. An announcement was posted in the Weekly Briefs (web page) last week. Another will go out tomorrow in the Weekly Briefs (Email). We have spent the last week integrating the authentication of BlueJeans with the Jefferson Lab computer environment so you won't have yet another password to remember. It uses the Jefferson Lab Single Sign On service (SAML). We have started a web page to help users setup their account and begin to use the service (http://cc.jlab.org/bluejeans). There are some suggestions we need to get posted that will help you make use of it.

We are not yet ready to help/support people using bluejeans but are close (another week). So don't coming running to the HelpDesk today.

Also, it is not to be used for personal use. Jefferson Lab provides collaboration services (including audio, video, and data conferencing) in support of the mission of the laboratory. Remember that these services are funded by the DOE. These services are intended to encourage real-time collaboration across laboratory organizations and with collaborations associated with the laboratory.

Andy

I also have permission from local people to support GlueX use, even if IU is not a participant in every meeting. We just need to agree upon a number.

It seems, DOE is bringing that service down in September. Between now and then we need to work together to come up with a replacement service that is affordable and works as well as ESnet. Sorry for the bad news, but at least we have time to work on finding alternatives.

Commercial solutions have matured significantly in recent years, however, and many labs and collaborations have found alternative providers to support their collaboration needs.

In addition, we will encourage efforts of Labs and virtual organizations to work together in exploring new options, and will serve as a 'matchmaker' for those efforts. One such effort is now underway in the HEP community, and we will document progress on that as it evolves.

Additionally, we are working with University of California Office of the President (UCOP) to permit individual Labs to transition to standalone ReadyTalk contracts if they wish.
