The IT Division has scheduled a maintenance period for 5-10 p.m. on
Tuesday, Jan. 16. During this time, the Division will be making some
configuration changes to the outgoing mail servers to make them more
secure; these changes should not impact performance. The wireless
network environment will also be updated, requiring a brief outage (less
than five minutes) while the controllers reboot to finalize the update.
In addition, updates to Core Common User Environment software packages,
such as Firefox and Thunderbird, will be deployed. Also, the Linux VDI
infrastructure will be updated to a new version; this environment will
be off-line during the maintenance period. Symantec AntiVirus client
updates will also be released during this maintenance period, which will
require a reboot of Windows desktops. If you are prompted to reboot your
computer to finish the Symantec installation, please do so as soon as
practical. Finally, Windows and Linux patches will be released to all
CUE-managed servers and desktop systems, and various Windows and Linux
services will be unavailable for a short period overnight while the
underlying servers are rebooted to finalize patch installations. Please
plan on rebooting your Windows or Linux desktop system no later than
Friday, Jan. 19.
