Dear onliners,
At the last Hall D online meeting we briefly discussed on how
to improve the organization of various tests that require electronics
components from Hall D. Since Fernando was not there and we would not have
a productive discussion in his absence, I volunteered to make a proposal
on who should be the contact people for these. I talked to Fernando, and
he is willing to be the
"gatekeeper" for ALL electronics boards. These include ADCs, TDCs,
discriminators,
all trigger boards, power supplies. He will also be the gatekeeper for
the chassis
and crates, like VME/VXS, HV/LV etc. I will be keeping track of VME
CPUs, network
switches and online computers, and I am willing to be the "gatekeeper"
for those.
Since the number of tests involving DAQ is expected to increase, it is
important to plan the tests ahead of time so that all required
components are
available during the tests. The proposal, which becomes simple, is that
each group that is planning
a test requiring these kinds of resources should send a request to
Fernando (barbosa at jlab.org) with a
list of all boards that will be needed AT LEAST three months before the
group will need those boards.
That way Fernando can plan and reserve boards, if possible, for that
particular test. If that activity
needs VME CPUs, network switches or computers then the group needs to
send a request
to me (hovanes at jlab.org) with the exact number of CPUs, switches or
computers
AT LEAST three months before you need them, so that we allocate them or
buy them if we
need to.
We can discuss this on the next online meeting.
Happy New Year,
Hovanes.
