Hi Folks,
At last Wednesday’s Offline Software meeting I promised to setup a special meeting
to discuss the fADC emulation. As a reminder, this is the software that is used to form
pulse integral, pedestal, and time objects from data taken in mode 8 that has the raw
data samples in it. We have taken quite a bit of mode 8 data in the first 2 commissioning
runs so the emulation has turned out to be a critical piece of code.
The current emulation does not faithfully reproduce the values that the firmware would
have produced. We also do not currently have a system for applying different configuration
parameters for different detector systems. (e.g. NSB, NSA, thresholds). Furthermore, we
would like the option of applying alternative algorithms that may do a better job than the
existing firmware. Just these considerations motivates us to refactor the code significantly.
I would like to have a special meeting of interested parties so that we can discuss exactly
which features should be included in the refactored code. We will also try and assign
tasks and a schedule to the appropriate people so that the work can be completed.
My schedule is fairly limited since I’m leaving town Wednesday after the Online meeting
and will be gone for all of next week. We will therefore need to meet at either of the
two times listed below, or defer the meeting until the week of Sep. 7th:
Tues. Aug. 25th @ 2pm ET
Wed. Aug. 26th @ 9am ET
If you would like to participate and can’t make one or more of these times, please let
me know. Also let me know if you have a preference.
Regards,
-David
