[Halld-online] [EXTERNAL] vnc server crashing on gluon machines

Hello David,

If I start up a vnc session on any of the gluon machines and then try to
run root, it crashes the vnc session whenever one of the TCanvas windows
closes. Apparently this is a known issue with the Xorg server, and a patch
is available. This makes root effectively unusable over vnc. A workaround
is to avoid vnc and use X11 forwarding. X11 forwarding is much more
sluggish, so that is a pain. I don't know when this might rise to the level
of an action item, but just so you and others know about it. A formal
report with the recommended fix is linked below.
