Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to send another gentle reminder to please circulate your DNP
abstracts around the physics list for comments by this coming Monday (I
have heard plans from several people since the biweekly meeting this
morning already!).
Also, I wanted to bring to your attention the line in the email below: "An
in-person meeting seems untenable (from a health/safety standard), so we
suggest that you plan for a virtual DNP20 meeting."
Cheers,
Sean

*Division of Nuclear Physics*
Dear DNP Members,
As you probably know, the deadline to submit an abstract for the Fall DNP
2020 meeting is quickly approaching (on *Friday, June 26*).
An in-person meeting seems untenable (from a health/safety standard), so we
suggest that you plan for a virtual DNP20 meeting. The dates will not
change (Thursday, October 29 – Sunday, November 1). See the DNP Newsletter
(May 2020 issue) at dnp.aps.org
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://info.aps.org/e/640833/2020-06-18/drypz/294047493?h=Ybv0L-ePyYZ5hGLix9hVNcOAMZ5xZcJRbGL5smwUAgI__;!!PhOWcWs!m7qnV3HUzzgccyMWsQdQICgl_ywLppAjtL_ZqWM1oOrztmc_dVYGIoOg35A53A$>
for more information.
There will be a nominal registration fee, to cover the real costs of
running a virtual meeting. The registration fees cover the cost to process
abstracts and registrations, provide access to the virtual webspace, etc.
These costs, which are currently being evaluated, will be less than for an
in-person meeting. In any event, the fee for students will be less than
$100. The registration website is not yet set up, but it will be announced
shortly.
All talks for the virtual DNP20 meeting will be “live”, including all
contributed talks. The virtual meeting platform will allow for Q&A at the
end of each talk, moderated by a session chair. Technical support will be
available to set up prior to each session. Posters, through the Conference
Experience for Undergraduates (CEU) will be available at a website, and
separate parallel sessions will be organized by topic, allowing students to
present their posters and take part in live Q&A. All meeting participants
will be encouraged to network using chat or email to follow up with
speakers/posters after their presentations.
We hope that these details will assist you in planning for DNP20, and we
encourage you to submit an abstract of your recent research. While a
virtual meeting cannot replace the dynamic interactions that occur in the
hallways and at social functions of an in-person meeting, we hope to
provide the safest and best venue possible for DNP20. We look forward to
again having in-person meetings in the future.
If you have questions, please send email to hicks at ohio.edu.
Best regards,
Krishna Kumar (DNP Chair)
Sherry Yennello (DNP Chair-Elect)
Vicki Greene (DNP Vice Chair)
Robert Janssens (DNP Past-Chair)
Ken Hicks (DNP Secretary/Treasurer)
