Dear collaborators,
One magnet in arc 5 has partly burned this morning. Investigation is on-going and will be followed by repair. While accelerator can still deliver beam to Halls A and B, it cannot for Hall D. We do not know yet how long the repair will take but it will be at least more than a day. Depending on the findings, we may be back-up later this week or stay down for a significantly longer time. I will send an update once we know more.
Consequently, shifts are cancelled until tomorrow (Wednesday) noon. Next shifts are on standby until Thursday morning, 8am. (Standby shifts means that the shift crew should be close to JLab and ready to come to shift on short notice. If your shifts are on standby, please email me and the PDL (Benedikt Zihlmann) the phone numbers at which we can contact you in case the shifts are recalled).
So far, there has been little progress on our program due to several problems: the long beam tune associated with starting the beam after a long shut down, north linac down due to a cold box trip, Solenoid power supply trips and a tagger magnet trip. Essentially, we have not been able to start our program yet. However, accelerator did made good progress for us on nA BPM commissioning (theose work and the last task remaining is to calibrate them with the stripline BPM). Fast feedback commissioning is also progressing well.
Best regards,
Alexandre Deur, Hall D Run Coordinator.
