Hi GlueX ML/AI Enthusiasts,

We are finally looking at alternative dates to schedule the joint GlueX-PANDA ML/AI workshop.
The newly suggested schedule is:

Date: Jan. 20-24, 2020
Place: GSI Darmstadt, Germany

I need to get a new head count of people who are able to attend. Keep in mind that you will be
responsible for funding your own travel since there is currently no external funding for the
workshop.

Please drop me an e-mail if you are likely to attend. Also let me know if you can’t make it and the
only reason is the dates. (i.e. you would be likely to attend if we pushed it back to Feb. or Mar.)

I need this by noon Thursday so we can decide if attendance will be enough to finalize preparations.

Regards,
-David

Hi All,

Please see Tobias’ e-mail below suggesting a workshop/school on ML born from discussions
at the joint GlueX-PANDA meeting last May.

Everything is a suggestion at this point, so we should gather some info from our (GlueX) end
regarding possible participation. If you are interested, please drop me an e-mail answering the
following:

1. Are you interested in participating and likely to attend?

2. Would the dates and/or location suggested prevent you from otherwise attending?

Regards,
-David

Dear colleagues from GlueX,

during our joined workshop beginning of May we also discussed about a joined topical workshop/school about ML.
We started to think about this workshop a bit more in detail and came up with some ideas:
A place we could offer is the KVI Center in Groningen(NL) from October 28th till November 1st 2019. The number of participants could be up to 40 persons in total.

Possible topics from our side would be: General introduction in ML, particle identification, tacking, unsupervised ML, physics analysis using ML, image recognition (also outside HEP).

The idea would be to combine lectures with hands-on tutorials and maybe also a small hackathon.

Does this sound interesting for you? Is the format and the date of the workshop/school appropriate?
Which topics would you like to cover? Do you have experts who would be interested in giving a lecture/tutorial?

With kind regards,
Tobias
