Since our last RC meeting on Friday, we continued collecting data on the Liquid Helium target with 200nA beam. Fortunately, the beam stability has been pretty good over the weekend. There was a period of about 1 hour during the swing shift on Saturday when the beam was down to an issue with some IOCs. We used this time to collect some raw cosmic data at Beni's request. Early Sunday morning, there were also a couple of short interruptions in the beam delivery to Hall D while MCC did some tuning, but in total the beam was only gone for about 30 minutes from that incident.
The plan for the rest of the weekend is just to continue taking production data at 200nA. On Monday morning we plan to empty the target and perform a TAC run to take advantage of this time while Hall C is down (Chris Carlin was notified about this target change, and will monitor things as we empty the target). The performance of the active collimator under the TAC run conditions was checked on Friday afternoon, and it was found to be acceptable, but we may need to do some additional tuning tomorrow. Likely we will perform the TAC run during the day on Monday while experts are around. Then, we will continue to collect data on the empty target until the maintenance day on Wednesday. But we can discuss those plans in more detail at the next RC meeting.
There are a couple of issues to report from the weekend running:
- During the Day shift on Saturday, we noticed one FCAL base which was locked up. We tried the usual reset procedure, but were unable to resolve the issue. However, this particular FCAL channel is near the outer edge of the detector, and is not critical to the current program. Malte will need to take a look at this next chance we have an access to the hall (probably on Wednesday). There is also one base which does not seem to be holding HV and will likely need to be replaced on the next access.
- We had a conflict with one shift leader not being able to show up due to inactive registration. For those planning to come to the lab for shifts, please read Eugene's email from yesterday (Saturday) regarding the policy on access to the lab. Thanks to Sergey for volunteering to take over that shift on Friday night, and to Dave Lawrence for offering to take the shifts on Saturday and Sunday night.
We will resume the normal 8:45am run coordination meetings tomorrow morning.
Best Regards,
-- Drew
