Dear Collaborators,

We suffered a number of serious and confounding problems upon starting to operate the installed SVT for the first time yesterday.  This morning we went down to check things, tune things, and speak softly to the tracker.  Immediately afterwards, we were able to operate the entire detector, which looks as good now as it ever has.  We won't have a clear picture of the quality of all the channels until we do a calibration, which hasn't been done since the tracker was fully assembled.  However, there is every reason now to think that the entire tracker can deliver data with a small rate of bad channels and efforts continue to exercise the remaining demons.

We are waiting now for clean beam in Hall B; which has been in tuning for a few hours now; as the trigger, online, monitoring and software folks get ready to look at some data.
