Dear HPS Institutional Reps,
If you've already written Bryan, many thanks.
If you haven't yet, please provide him your institution's manpower availability for shifts for a potential extended HPS run, May 5-19. Bryan will try to fill shifts accordingly. Please get back to Bryan TODAY!
See the message below for the shifts we need to cover.
Thanks,
John

Subject: Planning for Run Extension May 5-19 SHIFT AVAILABILITY NEEDED
Dear HPS,
We have requested that the HPS run be extended from May 5-19. The purpose of the extension would be to get our first physics data at 1 GeV. JLAB management is considering the request very seriously, and hopes to give us an answer in a week's time. This run could make up for the extended machine down times brought on by the power outage earlier this Spring. It could advance our agenda considerably and make up for what has been a very rough beginning.
While a run extension is essential for HPS to get its first physics this cycle, the EC understands that the request for participation in shifts leaves little time to make travel plans, especially for those in Europe.
Accordingly, the EC asks that all HPS institutional representatives let Bryan McKinnon cc'd above know their institution's manpower availability for shifts during this period, as defined below. Bryan will try to fill shifts accordingly. Please get back to Bryan by next Tuesday, April 21.
The lab has decided that the 12 GeV operations be given 5 - 10 hour days/week, Monday through Friday. That gives HPS nights and weekends, so, between May 5 and May 19, plan to staff:
Monday -Thursday owl and swing (no days)
Friday-Sunday owl, day, and swing
(We include Friday day in the hopes that Hall B work can actually be fit into four weekdays).
A final effort this cycle could reap big rewards for HPS. Try to help.
For the HPS EC,
John
