[Hps] [EXTERNAL] HPS - DEI Outreach and Recruitment Discussion (timely response requested)

Hello HPS Collaborators!

My name is Emrys and I am a graduate student working for the SLAC group. I just wanted to poll the collaboration for meeting times in the next two weeks to begin a discussion on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and how HPS can be more intentional in outreach and recruitment. A good discussion is necessary in defining the scope of action for HPS and direct concerted efforts towards realizable goals in both the near and distant future.

I filled an assortment of 1-hour blocks, if you are able to make just half of the meeting that would be great too! If the meeting time decided upon does not work with your schedule, please reach out if you have ideas or want something to be addressed during the discussion.

Topics that could be discussed:

  *   Utilizing grants dedicated towards recruitment of students from MSI's (minority serving institutions)
  *   Determining the capacity by which member institutions could become actively involved in outreach activities
  *   HPS Adoption of a Code Of Conduct

Again, if anything comes to mind regarding this discussion or these very tentative topics, please reach out! Working to make HPS more welcoming and diverse is something that requires community input and guidance each step of the way.  I will compile any suggestions and incorporate them into a tentative agenda to be sent out shortly before the discussion.

As a first generation and socioeconomically disadvantaged student, this is an important topic to me and something I take seriously. I appreciate any and all feedback!
