The Neutron Two-Photon Exchange Experiment Using the Super BigBite Spectrometer Apparatus
Abstract:
The neutron Two-Photon Exchange (nTPE) experiment in Hall A is part of the Super BigBite Spectrometer (SBS) program and will provide the first extraction of the Rosenbluth Slope for the neutron. The nTPE experiment was conducted by simultaneously detecting protons and neutrons from quasi-elastic electron-deuteron scattering at 𝑄2 = 4.5 (GeV/c)2. The neutron Rosenbluth Slope will be extracted by measuring the ratio(neutron/proton) of quasi-elastic cross-sections at a single 𝑄2, but at two different beam energies (and electron scattering angles). It is anticipated that this extraction of the neutron Rosenbluth Slope will be sensitive to two-photon exchange contributions to elastic electron-neutron scattering cross-sections. The experiment was performed using the BigBite Spectrometer which detected the scattered electrons, and the Super BigBite Spectrometer which detected the scattered nucleons using a large aperture dipole magnet and hadron calorimeter. This talk will include an overview of the nTPE experiment, the physics extraction, and a description of the ongoing data analysis.
