Structure Function F2n of neutrons using Spectator Tagging (The BONuS12 experiment at Jlab)
Abstract:
The BONuS12 (Barely Off-shell Neutron Structure) was conducted at Jefferson Lab during the Fall and Spring of 2020. The experiment seeks to measure the structure-function F2nof neutrons as high as Bjorken- x ~ 0.8. Since free neutron targets are not readily available, we used the technique of spectator tagging tag slow spectator protons in 2H(e, eps)X with a new custom-built “radial TPC” to select events on “nearly free” neutrons and to correct for their initial motion. With this experiment, we also expect to measure the behavior of valence d/u quark at high Bjorken-x and test various theoretical models. In this talk, I will discuss the motivations behind the BONuS12 experiment and details of the newly built RTPC detector. I will also discuss my role in the experiment and give some updates about the results.
