                           "The HDice Target at JLab"

Abstract: Polarized targets, especially of the frozen-spin variety, are highly
valuable tools in the study of nucleon structure and the interaction mechanisms
of its constituents. The HDice target, a “next generation” frozen-spin target
system, is operated here at Jefferson Lab. This unique frozen-spin, solid HD
target provides access to polarized protons and neutrons frozen in a quantum
crystal for fixed target experiments. It has been used in Hall B (CLAS-6) for
the last experiment of the N* program, E06-101 (g14), utilizing circularly and
longitudinally polarized photons. Its potential for use with electrons with
CLAS-12 will allow for a plethora of experiments which will be of “high impact”
for Hall B. The complexity of this target and how it works, the production process,
and its past and future uses at Jefferson Lab will be discussed.
