VUBeam Online Courses - Spring 2018
In the current Spring term, the following courses will be offered through the VUBeam online graduate program in Beam Physics, sponsored by Michigan State University and the US Department of Energy. The courses can be taken individually, or as part of remote degree programs leading to Master's or Ph.D. degrees.
The courses available are
PHY861 Introduction to Beam Physics
PHY961 Nonlinear Beam Dynamics
PHY962-1 Particle Accelerators I
PHY962-2 Particle Accelerators II
PHY963 Participation in USPAS (for degree students)
PHY964 Reading Course in Beam Physics - topics by mutual agreement
Degree students have the possibility to participate in thesis related courses as follows,
PHY899 Master's Research
PHY999 Ph.D. Dissertation Research
PHY861 provides an introduction and general overview of Beam Physics. The textbook for this course, which also covers parts of PHY961 and PHY962, is An Introduction to Beam Physics.
PHY961 addresses in depth many aspects related to the nonlinear dynamics in particle accelerators. The textbook for this course is Modern Map Methods in Particle Beam Physics.
PHY962 consists of two parts, which provide a showcase of various accelerator types all over the world.
PHY964 is set up based on mutual agreement and can cover a variety of research and reading topics for more advanced students.
All courses consist of live and downloadable lectures, online lecture notes, as well as web-based homework problems, many of which are interactive and provide immediate feedback.
