[Moller] MOLLER Director's Review Report

Dear MOLLER collaborators:

Attached is the report from the recent Director’s review. As mentioned in the executive summary, the committee found that the development of the MOLLER project is at the appropriate level of maturity at this time. The committee found no technical showstoppers and were generally satisfied with the status of technology choices and the pre-conceptual design. The entire collaboration and especially the project team are to be commended for the getting us to this stage. 

We expect that the project will be “unpaused” soon and some funding will be released to allow us to continue our pre-conceptual design work. We have now pivoted to planning the necessary steps to prepare the groundwork towards a CD-1 review, hopefully relatively early in calendar 2020. This will certainly depend on the level of resources that are made available to us for the rest of fiscal ’19 and ’20.

The summer will be busy as we continue to flesh out details of the conceptual design and work on further sharpening the cost estimate.

We will be in touch with an update in a few weeks once we have a better understanding of the timelines and levels of near-term funding.
