Folks,
Just an FYI an reminder.  This one was pretty easy to avoid with composite/steel toed shoes.  If anyone is concerned about comfort working in those boots I was pointed to Reebok composite toed boots and they are amazingly comfortable.  Most institutions will purchase these for staff who require them.

EVENT: EMPLOYEE SUSTAINS INJURY TO THE FOOT WHILE MOVING C100 STRING IN THE TEST LAB

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
 On Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m., an Accelerator Division employee was working in the Test Lab (bldg. 58), when it was reported that their right foot was run over by a wheel on the C100 cavity string. The employee was working with a group of other employees to move the string from the clean room to the Test Lab when the right foot sustained an injury to the toes. The employee immediately stopped working, verbally notified his coworkers of the injury and another employee drove the injured employee to the hospital where he was admitted.



EVENT IMPACT:
There could be additional foot-related injuries in the future if these concerns are not addressed.



LESSONS LEARNED:

  *   Use the designated hand rails when pushing or pulling the C100 string rail.
  *   It's imperative to wear safety shoes while working in an industrial workspace to protect feet from potential injuries.
  *   It's important to identify safety hazards and conduct a pre-planning meeting before starting work.

WHAT WENT RIGHT?:
The employee reported the injury to their supervisor and later contacted Occupational Medicine.
