[Moller_pion_bg] MOLLER: Pion Background Detector Meeting Tuesday Nov. 5 at 4 pm EST

HI, Folks. I have not been able to attend these meetings this semester. I note that the predicted fractional rate is an order of magnitude smaller than was estimated in the proposal document and also Seamus’s simulation from a while ago.

One cross-check would be to run this for E158 kinematics (which I will be happy to give you). We have an actual measurement of the pion rate there in a dedicated run. We got 0.13% if I recall and simple scaling arguments would tell you that this should be roughly invariant for the kinematics of MOLLER (4 times lower energy but roughly twice the polar range).

Cheers, KK
