Folks,
I met with Arne Freyberger (director of CEBAF operations) and Steve Suhring (CEBAF operability manager) to discuss running the Mott experiment during the upcoming Winter accelerator shutdown/maintenance period. I'm happy to say they support running Part 1 with Mott related activities now scheduled spanning Jan. 14-19. Recall Part 1 asks for ~9 shifts for measurements at 6.3 MeV vs. gold thickness, at two repetition rates 31MHz (special dump suppression mode) vs. 499MHz (usual physics operation mode).
Given the good news and short time let's have a run planning meeting on Thursday December 4th at usual 1:30pm EST. We'll discuss the Part 1 goals, running conditions, staffing/schedules, responsibilities and prioritize beam test requests we continue to lobby for prior to the Dec. 22nd holiday shutdown.
In the meantime, I've attached a pic of the January schedule and point out some dates that you may wonder about...
*Wed, Jan. 07 - injector cryogens transition from 4K to 2K, a pre-requisite before experiment begins
*Wed, Jan. 14 - restore 6.3 MeV beam, make punch list of items for repair
*Thu, Jan. 15 - make repairs, complete 6.3 MeV setup, opportunity to start Mott setup/checkout
*Fri, Jan. 16 - experiment starts ~4pm, occasional beam off for access to NL
*Sat, Jan. 17 - experiment continues all day, occasional beam off for access to NL
*Sun, Jan. 18 - experiment continues all day, occasional beam off for access to NL
*Mon, Jan. 19 - experiment ends ~7am
There is a possibility for a second run period over the Feb. 6-9 weekend; however, it's quite possible this time period is spoiled by other competing/conflicting activities necessary for the spring physics run the following week.
