Hello, Jefferson Lab Community:
The Open House is almost here! All of the Tour Stops are looking great
and setup is nearly complete. Thank you to everyone who has been
involved with planning and preparation for this eagerly awaited event.
We have had lots of interest from the public in the Open House and are
expecting a turnout of 5000-plus. This is Jefferson Lab's first Open
House where visitors may walk the entire event if they choose; this
should help to alleviate congestion at bus stops.
This email is updated from the one sent out earlier this week, it covers
a range of topics that take the laboratory community through Monday
morning.
1. Open House Volunteers: Please arrive early enough to get to your
location at the time your supervisor or tour coordinator indicated for
your shift. If you are to report for the morning shift/all day, and
don't yet have a report time, please plan to arrive no later than 8 a.m.
to allow time to park and get shuttled or walk to your area. Please be
in your place by 8:30 a.m. Visitors will begin arriving promptly at 9 a.m.
*IF YOU ARE NOT A VOLUNTEER but coming to see the Open House you need to
park at the Canon Parking lot so we have enough parking spaces for
volunteers, handicap and bus groups to park.*
2. All Volunteers with White Parking Passes are reminded that they must
park in the Volunteer lots down around the ARC and the VARC. You may
arrive via Onnes Drive and Lawrence Drive before 8:30 a.m. Everyone
arriving after 8:30 a.m. MUST use Hogan and Hofstadter (VARC entrance)
to park. Please see attached pdf map.
The few, limited ALL DAY people allowed to park on the Accelerator Site
Must arrive and be parked before 8:30 a.m. And you WON'T be able to move
your vehicle until AFTER 4 p.m.
3. If you have been assigned a radio (you will have been told), please
stop by CEBAF Center room B207 between 7 and 8 a.m. to sign out your
radio. If you will be turning over your radio to another volunteer,
please tell them that they must return the radio to CC B207 at the end
of the day.
4. The forecast is calling for unseasonably hot, sunny weather -- 88 to
91 degrees. If you will be outdoors, please wear protective clothing
(hat; lightweight and light colored, long pants and sleeved shirts),
sunscreen, sunglasses and carry a water bottle to stay hydrated.
5. The roads and parking lots closed for the Open House will be open for
work by Monday morning. Please be aware that Rattley Road, behind CEBAF
Center and the EEL will be paved on Monday. This will create some
congestion for people parking behind the EEL, Bldg. 90, but parking will
be permitted behind the EEL.
*6. Housekeeping for the entire laboratory: *Before leaving today put
perishable items (such as food) in any restroom or kitchen area trash
containers. Restroom and kitchenette waste containers will be emptied
today. Office waste and recycling won't be picked up until the end of
next week.
Enjoy the Open House. This is a great opportunity to tell the public
about the great work, incredible experiments and the outstanding people
at Jefferson Lab! Be safe; and don't hesitate to remind the visitors in
your area of the appropriate cautions or safety reminders.
Thank you and Regards,
Deb Magaldi
