Expect heavier than normal large-vehicle traffic on the Accelerator Site
today, especially on CEBAF Blvd. (down the center of the Accelerator Site).
The following sections of Accelerator Site roads will be closed
intermittently between March 7 and 9, Wednesday through Friday.
-- CEBAF Blvd. from east of the Free-Electron Laser Facility to the
Canon Blvd. gate.
-- Bohr Blvd. (Accelerator ring road) from the northeast corner of the
East Arc through Bohr Blvd. South to the South Linac entrance to the
Central Helium Liquefier, Bldg. 8.
*These closures won't affect access to the Experimental Staging building
(Bldg. 23); the Hall D Complex; Halls A, B and C; the Counting House or
Building 98.*
Please heed all detour signs and road closure devices.
For more information, please read below:
Temporary closures to sections of roads on the Accelerator Site will
likely occur Wednesday through Friday, March 7-9, during the delivery of
the first of two cold box assemblies to be installed at the CHL.
A 60 foot long tractor trailer delivering the 100,000 pound cold box
will enter the Accelerator Site via Canon Blvd likely by late Tuesday.
By early Wednesday morning please expect CEBAF Blvd. -- from east of the
FEL to the Canon Blvd. gate -- to be closed. This will also trigger
closing the Accelerator ring road (Bohr Blvd.) from the northeast corner
of the East Arc to the CHL entrance adjacent to the South Linac on Bohr
Blvd. South.
Two very large cranes will be set up today near the intersection of the
East Arc and CEBAF Blvd. The cranes will be used on Tuesday to transfer
the cold box from the over-the-road tractor trailer to a tractor trailer
that can carry the cold box to the back (south) side of the CHL.
After the cold box has been loaded to the delivery tractor trailer the
two cranes will also be moved and repositioned behind the CHL. The
process of moving the cranes and the cold box down Bohr Blvd. South will
take several hours.
The east end of CEBAF Blvd. and the road over the East Arc will re-open
as soon as the tractor trailers and cranes have cleared the area. Bohr
Blvd. South to the CHL will re-open after both cranes and the tractor
trailer have pulled into the CHL.
Pedestrians won't be able to walk around the transfer operation and
won't be permitted behind the CHL during the set up and unloading.
The entire area behind the CHL will be considered a construction zone.
Access to the area will be restricted to authorized personnel and will
require specified personal protective equipment.
Individuals needing more information may contact Bill Hunewill or Scott
Thompson, Engineering Division.
This is part of the CHL upgrade as part of the 12 GeV Upgrade project.
