Mike and pansophy team,

I am drafting PPU mag shield receiving inspection travelers. We have a
complex situation regarding the mag shields:
1. There is a set of spare inner mag shields made to SNS HB CM drawings
and repaired by Amuneal.
2. There is a set of spare outer mag shields made to a combination of
SNS HB CM drawings and SNS PPU drawings
3. We will receive 6 sets of inner mag shields made to SNS PPU drawings
4. We will receive 6 sets of outer mag shields made to SNS PPU drawings
5. We will receive 7 sets of outer mag shield supply extensions made to
SNS PPU drawings
6. We will receive 7 sets of outer mag shield return extensions made to
SNS PPU drawings
7. There will be extra mag shield parts, some are large, that will not
be used for SNS PPU cryomodules. Most of these were sent from ORNL.

On serialization,
1. I am not sure how the spare inner and outer mag shields are
serialized. Likely the parts/subassemblies are serialized and engraved.
The fact that the spares are now made to a mix of SNS HB and SNS PPU
drawings will make precisely following SRF's new serialization policy
difficult, unless we create new top assembly drawings for the spare
inner & outer mag shields. *--- any suggestion on serialization of the
spare shields, at assembly/kit level? Shall we give them S/N 007 and use
SNS HB's inner & outer shield assy drawing numbers and make notes in
travelers to state that they are SNS spares? *
2. All new SNS PPU inner & outer magnetic shields are serialized from
001 to 006.
3. All new outer mag shield extensions are serialized from 001 to 007.

On acronyms and travelers,
1. Currently we assigned acronyms IMAG and OMAG for the inner and outer
mag shields, respectively.
2. INV travelers for IMAG and OMAG exist. *--- We need to think about
how to use them to inventory the first 6 types of shields mentioned above. *
3. To avoid adding more acronyms for mag shields, I will use IMAG to
create the inner magnetic shields inspection traveler, which will be
used in inspection of both the spare and new inner magnetic shields. And
I will use OMAG in the outer magnetic shield inspection traveler, which
will include receiving inspections of the outer mag shields, supply
extensions and return extensions.
4. I will give instructions on how to match the outer magnetic shields
with supply and return extensions in OMAG INSP traveler. The match-ups
will be only for receiving inspection purpose. Inventory may issue any
combinations of outer + supply extension + return extension to production.

Sorry for the long message. Comments & suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Gary
