[Pansophy] Project for HS student / Community College Student

Carol and Lisa,
I am replying to both... I hope that is ok?
I have attached 2 possible projects: Pansophy Communications (same as before) and Pansophy R&D (more comp sci oriented project).
The Students pdf is my assessment of the students. My main concern is that those interested in computer science are interested in the high computation programming/simulation or controls software. I'm not sure they know about our little area of the world. And what we do may not be as glamorous as some of the others. However, we can offer work for them to do that is helpful and important to SRF and they would also have the opportunity to talk with others in fields that may interest them.
Having said all that (lol), I think
Cole Mathes and/or Li Bingrui have enough computer programming knowledge that they may find our more difficult project (Pansophy R&D) challenging for them. It is a new system that will support the SRF R&D group in the material sciences efforts of analyzing samples of particulates from the accelerator. We will be building a database / web pages / and reporting functions for them.
Scott Lamb also has some computer science interest, but he does not list his skills so I am not sure. He could work with our Pansophy Communications project which will update our help system (FastTrack) and training/user guides.
The College student does not have the right skill set for what we are looking for and the other HS Students are only interested and skilled in Engineering.
Thank You so very much for your help in helping us!!
Valerie

Yes Carol! I am still very interested. Sorry I got behind in answering you.
I will look over the resumes now and let you know.
The project would be "Pansophy Communications" and would require HTML/Web skills.
Thank You.
Valerie

Hi Valerie!
I am very excited to send you some resumes and cover letters from students interested in participating in the Lab's mentorship program. These students are from The Governors School for Science and Technology and are all extremely bright and capable. They are happy to work on any kind of project. The Gov. School mentorship coordinator is excellent and does a great job supporting the students.
Please let me know if any of these students meets the needs of your project and I will contact the school.
Thank you so much!

Wonderful! With the uncertainty of the MEDCON level at the Lab and the openings of schools in the fall this may need to start out as a remote mentorship program. Would your project lend itself to that, at least in the beginning? You would have the full support of Science Education and of course, me.
The Lab can support up to 10 high school mentorship students during the school year and I am currently receiving resumes from the schools. I hope you remain interested.
Thank you so much!

Carol,
Yes, a student throughout the year would work for our Help/Web project. That would be great!
Thank You.

Hi Valerie,
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I understand that 3 weeks is not a lot of time to tackle a big project.
Would you be interested in mentoring a high school student for the upcoming school year? Students work at the Lab from late Sept.-May and typically spend 4-6 hours per week at the Lab. Let me know if that seems like something you may be interested in. I'm happy to give you more information or to answer any questions.
Thanks again!

Carol,
I am so sorry about this late response. I am not sure that the project can be done in that amount of time.

Hi Valerie,
Lisa mentioned to me that you may have a project for a high school student. The High School Summer Honors Program is a 6 week program and students work from 8-5 everyday. I am attaching a Scope of Work document for you to complete. Please note that mentors and alternate mentors that you assign will need to complete MGT202 training before students arrive. If you have any questions please let me know.
Lisa and I will be conducting virtual interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. Once we have determined which students "have the job" I will send you the applications so you can read through them and see if one of the students would be a good match for your project.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you!
