Hi Allen,

I normally combine the purpose and scope into one section, but I will start keeping them as separate sections for procedures I write going forward.  For procedures that are being worked in production environment (like the chemistry room or clean room) I do like to have a Safety section on the first page to outline all of the safety considerations and requirements.  Please consider adding a Safety section to the template as I believe that this information should always be provided to the person performing the procedure.  I understand the purpose of Sections 3 and 4, and use them when it makes sense with the procedure.  And of course section 5 and to the end of the document are all necessary.

For project specific procedures, as long as you start with the template, the exact order and section requirements are a bit less stringent. The important parts like the information header and the approval section are of course still important, but the meat in the middle is less so.
For the master procedures, a closer following of the template is preferred. The information header and the revision/approval sections are essential and must remain. Sections 1 and 2 regarding the purpose and scope are preferred to be filled out, as they define when the procedure is applicable for use. Sections 3 and 4 terms and roles are optional as-needed sections; they can be removed if not needed. And section 5 is where the actual procedure goes, obviously making it absolutely essential. HI Allen,

I talked to Jacob yesterday (added Jacob to this email as well so that he can chime in as needed).  Based on the conversation with Jacob, I believe the procedure in the format I submitted is fine for a project specific procedure.  I believe we do need to have a better general agreement / understanding on what exactly is required for an SRF master procedure – but in an effort to get the WMGRDR documents ready for use, I’d like to separate out the discussion of master documents from getting this procedure routed for approval.  Can you please route the WMGRDR-PR-CLNRM-GRDR-ASSY-R1 for approval (after discussing with Jacob as needed)?  I need this procedure to be issued so that I can make a revision to the associated traveler as soon as possible.

Can you please explain to me what the difference between the format I sent and the new format is?  It looks like the new format you sent does not have the headers or footers on each page, and it has several Level 1 headers that I don’t need.  I would rather just be able to put the procedure in the right format before I send it in so that you don’t have to make the changes.  I thought that I was submitting the procedures properly formatted since per previous discussions with Jacob I had the understanding that the un-needed Level 1 headers did not have to be included, and I thought that the page headers and footers were required.
