Dear Ce+BAF colleagues,

Tomorrow's accelerator division seminar overlays our weekly team meeting (unlucky!). However, the topic is the FCC-ee electron-positron collider which is broadly interesting (lucky!), especially if you'd like to learn more about it. The Great Law of Averages.

So, you are all invited to join the seminar (details below) and we'll resume our normal weekly meeting next Wednesday 2/18 at 11am. The speaker will be Volker Ziemann.

Description:
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m., Leon Van Riesen-Haupt of Old Dominion University will present "Simulating and Optimization Challenges for the FCC-ee" in Test Lab rm. 1227 and via Zoom.

Abstract: The Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) is a proposed high-luminosity electron-positron collider whose performance is strongly influenced by synchrotron radiation, magnetic imperfections, and interactions between colliding particle beams. Reaching its ambitious physics goals requires accurate modeling of these effects and a clear understanding of how they collectively impact key performance quantities such as beam size, luminosity, and beam lifetime. In this talk, I present recent work using the Xsuite simulation framework to model FCC-ee with increasing realism, combining radiation effects, magnet errors, and beam–beam interactions within a single, benchmarked environment. These simulations allow detailed performance studies and large parameter scans that inform design choices and error tolerances. Because full lifetime simulations are computationally demanding, I also discuss the development of faster, quantitative indicators of beam stability tailored to radiation-dominated machines and assess how well they correlate with true performance. Together, these studies help guide the optimization of FCC-ee and illustrate the challenges and opportunities in designing the next generation of high- performance particle colliders.
