[Rec_bike] pedal clips

Ed, just stick with Shimano to be safe, go with Shimano Deore XT pedals ($59 at Nashbar) and Shimano shoes, most models come in an wide option like the Shimano M089 model ($110 at Nashbar). The shimano shoe and cleat setup is good for walking around, pedal and cleat are durable unlike some brands. The only con maybe not enough mud clearance in the pedal compared to some other brands like Crank Brothers. I've been using a Shimano setup for cyclocross racing for 3 seasons now, and have no issues.

JLab bikers,

See if you can provide guidance to Ed, a fellow JLab biker.

Thanks!

Steve

Guys,

I was hoping that you guys, as cyclists, could recommend a pedal clip and shoe setup for my Trek mountain bike? I am what I guess you would describe as a “causal” rider. I ride for exercise to keep my legs in shape for alpine skiing, typically 10-12 miles at a time on roads and sidewalks and want to add the “uplift” leg resistance that pedal clips provide.

Thanks for your time,

EdW
