[Sbs] [EXTERNAL] ECAL detectors

Hi Jim, I wonder why the blocks would “eventually be trashed”? That sounds more like speculation and hearsay than actual planning. There are several future experiments that would conceivably like to use them, not the least of which is an improved future GEP measurement. That said, I’m not aware of any near-term plans to reassemble/re-use these blocks.
Anyway, Mark and Bogdan probably have better knowledge of the real long-term plans for those blocks…
Best regards,
Andrew

Hi Mark,
I was meeting with Don this morning, and he mentioned that the ECAL detectors from GEp are going to be put in storage and eventually trashed.
I would love to get several of those blocks, with PMTs, for my undergraduate advanced lab course. I’d use them for a muon decay experiment, better than what I have now. We are already replacing the electronics with a CAEN desktop digitizer, big improvement over what we had before, but the detector is still substandard.
I can handle the transport, and the high voltage and other electronics. Also, Bogdan tells me that at least ten blocks available (that have not been exported to radiation.)
Can we make this happen? I am happy to do whatever paperwork and legwork is necessary.
Thanks,
Jim
