Dear all,

Here’s the estimated work planned prior to GEn-RP for your awareness.

Subject: GEM work for next SAD

Dear all,

Here’s the tasks to GEn-RP. I will try to estimate the timelines:

  1. BB GEM work:
     * Remove layers 2-5, upgrade the HV and re-insert. Each layer can be removed with the jib crane (2 weeks, maybe less).
  2. SBS inline GEM work:
     * Remove the whole assembly from the platform. Remove each layer one at a time. Upgrade the HV on each layer and repair APVs that are known to be problematic. Insert into stack and put the whole stack back on the platform (3 weeks).
     * Run all HDMI cabling from the inline stack to the new electronics hut (1 week).
     * Maybe separately, Joe is going to install a new LV supply this Dec/Jan. That will use the big magnet cables that the techs pulled out and will go to some breakout boxes under the detectors to power them.
     * At some point the 2 XW layers will show up, already tested and upgraded, and will be inserted into the stack. We will run the cabling ahead of time. Timeline is unclear, but definitely before April.
  3. SBS GEMs in recoil arm:
     * Assembly in EEL still needs to be upgraded with new HV input, repaired for broken gas connector and tested with cosmics (4 weeks, will need tech support to remove layers and insert layers into assembly—2 weeks).
     * I spoke with Bill just now. He will get the scintillators brought from the ESB to EEL to be inserted into the assembly (will bring them over sooner, rather than later, but I don’t want to cable it until after we are done removing and inserting GEMs).
     * This whole assembly will be tested and prepared in EEL and brought down to be placed on the SBS platform after the SBS GEMs have been cabled and upgraded. Since it will all have been tested in EEL, then I think it can be safely secured on the platform and cabled closer to the start of the run.

Thanks,
Holly
