Dear All,
See the ORNL SNS PPU Project weekly update. We're all looking forward to receiving the first production cavity at JLab.
Cheers,
Ed

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Weekly update
This week the project was notified by BES that the funding profile presented at the recent CD-2/3 Independent Project Review (IPR) is appropriate for the ESAAB meeting that is tentatively scheduled for October 6th. The pre-ESAAB IPR recommendations have been addressed, and the project execution plan is undergoing final editing and review. The Independent Cost Estimate Review draft report is expected today.
The first superconducting RF cavity has been shipped this week from the vendor. Upon its arrival at Jefferson Lab, it will be prepared for acceptance testing in a vertical test stand, where the evacuated cavity will be cooled to 2K in a liquid helium bath, and RF performance will be measured. Cavities 2-5 will be shipped in early September, and the balance of the cavities is expected by the end of the calendar year.
The new low-level RF (LLRF) control system was tested successfully on the SNS Linac cavity 23d this week. Closed-loop feedback control of the cavity accelerating voltage was demonstrated and compared well with the performance of the existing operational LLRF system. This accomplishment is an important development milestone and supports the planned LLRF final design review in September.
A contract was initiated with a subject matter expert from Los Alamos to provide vendor oversight in Albuquerque for the production of the new high voltage modulators that will power the 28 RF stations that will be installed as PPU scope.
The Target Test Facility completed a safety review in preparation for filling the mercury loop and flowing mercury through the new prototypical target next week.
Thanks to all,
Mark
