Dear Christine,

As I've said, it is easy to present good work. The team here at JLab has really done a fine job.

Please forward John's message. Receiving it is a really nice way to end the work week and the series of reviews too.

Best,
Ed

Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update

This week the primary focus was an Independent Cost Estimate (ICE) review of the project cost, schedule and risk. The review included a project overview the first day, system overviews and Cost Account Manager drill downs the second day, and an assessment of how well we match GAO procedures the third day. Today, there was a positive closeout in-which the ICE review team was quite complimentary of the project team, documentation and presentations. Next the ICE team will complete their analysis, provide a draft report August 21, with a final report on Sept. 25. It has been 2 months of continuous review preparations and execution including the director’s review, the IPR and the ICE. We are now well positioned to move the project forward.

Other PPU activities this past week include a successful LLRF witness test on an active cavity, which included all the new LLRF system hardware, firmware and software. The next test with full control is anticipated for September. In the target system, using a facility at ORNL’s fusion energy division, a cryogenic temperature-pressure cycle test was successfully performed on a sapphire window to be used in the new ortho-para laser diagnostic measurement. Klystron gallery work continued with completion of the pump room roofing and maintenance outage related mechanical tie-ins completed for tower water, process water and chilled water. Also, increased sub-contractor training was implemented for awareness of accelerator safety related equipment in the area.

I want to express my sincere thanks to each of you for the excellent team effort getting through the reviews the past weeks. There has been a lot of work and stress getting here and you really represent ORNL and JLab well, as indicated by the positive closeout remarks from all three reviews.

Relax and stay safe - jg

(Note – we have posted the closeout slides from all the reviews on the review Indico sites)
