Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update
This week the project office concentrated on wrapping up a re-baselining effort, as we initiate earned value tracking following CD-2/3 approval. The updated project schedule will be used to refresh our staff projections which are being used in discussions with matrixed SNS divisions. Also, procurement readiness reviews were held for Ring Injection Dump instrumentation equipment and High Voltage Convertor Modulator controller equipment.
In the conventional facility area ceiling work in the klystron gallery is proceeding with hanging prefabricated pipe sections, continuing the air duct installation, and installing cable trays below the air ducts. Electrical cabinets were installed, and preparations for setting the air handler on roof were made. In the Target area R&D using of the Target Test Facility to measure gas bubble size and distributions and the gas liquid separator performance is delayed due to COVID. The target MOTS shielding award is now ready for bids. In the Ring area the beam power limiting system schedule is being scrubbed to better define resource needs, and some additional design work was identified for cooling of the upgraded injection kicker power supply design. In the RF area the 1st article load was received but acceptance testing is delayed due to COVID, and vendor shipment of the 1st article circulator is also delayed 1-2 weeks due to COVID. Production load and circulator unit delivery remains on schedule, however. In the superconducting RF area, a total of 10 cavities have now been shipped by the vendor and 2 more cavities arrived at JLab this week. 22 have completed fabrication by the vendor. One more cavity which was re-rinsed at JLab was successfully high power tested, bringing the total of accepted cavities to 5 now. The medium beta cryomodule was successfully plasma processed at SNS in the test case and is ready for tunnel installation in the upcoming outage.
As usual stay safe - and enjoy the weekend, looks to be nice weather - jg
