Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU Weekly update
This week the project office drafted a set of charge questions and an agenda for the upcoming Director’s review in August. We have shared this with our BES sponsors to coordinate planning for the following September OPA review. In the superconducting linac (SCL) area, procurement is progressing well at the partner lab, with 84 of the 91 JLab procurement packages having arrived. Understanding the cause of observed cavity field emission following Helium vessel jacketing remains a focus area in cryomodule fabrication. In the RF area, the first article RF circulator was repaired at the vendor following an unsuccessful test at SNS and is expected to be returned to SNS next week. The first SCL klystron passed acceptance testing at SNS. Low-level RF equipment testing is progressing with 26 of 30 frequency conversion chassis completed. Also, the arc detector chassis have been received from the vendor, and initial checks have started. In the Ring area, FNAL has begun ordering material for the new injection region magnets, and the design for the vacuum chambers for these magnets is maturing. In the target systems area, the test target 1 water-cooled shroud weld rework was approved. Also, early receipt of the mercury off-gas treatment system additional delay bed vessel and shielding will allow early installation in the maintenance period presently underway. The new PPU target front body to nose test weld procedure was successful, clearing the way for this vendor fabrication step. Regarding installation, the third and final Loxarmor cable pull was completed this week, and work is underway on the target building basement electrical upgrades.
Thanks for your efforts. Best wishes for an enjoyable weekend.
Mark
