Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update

The PPU project office finished processing the February PCRs this past week. The changes processed to date from the project baseline have been close to cost neutral, which is a testament to the soundness of the project cost and schedule estimates you all produced.

In the superconducting RF area, at JLab testing of the 4th jacketed cavity to be used in the initial string assembly revealed excessive field emission and a plan is being put into place for moving forward. The last of the 30 cavities from the initial procurement have arrived at JLab. In the RF area the initial batch of new SCL RF loads arrived and we are testing prototype LLRF components from vendors as a final step before production goes into full force. In the Ring area a preliminary design review was held for the beam-power limiting system, and the review team noted the excellent progress to date while providing valuable guidance. In the target R&D area, analysis of bubble injection in the Target Test Facility indicate that the injected bubbles should not interfere with heat transfer from the steel target vessel to the mercury. Finally, work is progressing well in the klystron gallery. Pipe installation is moving along – with another cooling cart connection completed. Also cable terminations have begun and initial hydro-testing started in some completed piping sections.

Finally, we received dates (Sept. 14-17) for our next OPA review which, will be a status update only this time. Given the steady stream of weekly progress we are producing now, I think the challenge will be to figure out how to squeeze the progress material into the prescribed review period!

Many thanks – jg
