Subject: [EXTERNAL] PPU weekly update


This week we continued working with NScD to evaluate potential impacts of the recent power ramp-up outage swap on activities such as the IRP replacement. In the superconducting RF area, at our partner JLab the first cryomodule cavity frequencies will be slightly adjusted following the initial cooldown test, and shipment to SNS is scheduled for March 9.  Also, the last of the 32 cavities from the vendor was tested and accepted and cryomodule 2 end cans are now attached. In the RF area, a set of milestones for testing and delivery of the initial transmitters was developed following the vendor visit last week. The last of the initial batch of 12 klystrons for the new superconducting area arrived and a fix to an identified RF seal issue with the new RF loads has been agreed on with the vendor. In the ring area, the first procurement was awarded for new vacuum vessel fabrication in the injection area upgrade. In the target area, we are looking at using a jet-flow outer shroud for test target 2 (the jet flow and PPU target shrouds fit each other) if fabrication progress necessitates. Also, gas recirculation upgrade parts were ordered. Installation work is also progressing in the klystron gallery with a focus on the equipment needed for the first power ramp-up coming later this year.
