Hello All,

This coming Wednesday, November 16th at 1 PM (EST), Raju Venugopalan will give our next in-person cake seminar in CC F224-225.
Please see below for the details.

Cake Seminar
Wednesday, November 16th at 1:00 PM

Raju Venugopalan (BNL)
will discuss "A big role for a phase: The chiral anomaly and sphaleron transitions in polarized deeply inelastic scattering"

Abstract:
We argue that the physics underlying topological mass generation in QCD (the UA(1) problem) is
also the physics that explains the helicity of the proton. Just as for the famous case of pi0 -> 2 photons,
a key role is played by a phase in the Dirac determinant required for the consistency of the theory. We suggest that measurements of polarized
structure functions at an Electron-Ion Collider can uncover first evidence for topological "sphaleron-like" transitions in nature.

In an effort to maintain the cake seminars as informal and internal to JLab, we will no longer be using the ZoomGov link for our in-person cake seminars.
However, if you will be absent from the lab and would like to tune in remotely, please reach out to one of us and we can provide connection details.

Best,
Caroline, Colin, & Patrick
