Dear Dave,
I don't quite understand the drawing and description. I assume that the
downstream SS tube is the 2.190 ID piece and that the upstream SS tube
is the 3.140 ID piece. Is the item labelled 'SS Mandel' the plate you
referred to?
We have the beam halo (that part between 2.19 and 3.14" ID) showering
in lead. The 'SS Mandel' will have the beam start showering in the SS
and then finish in the lead. I do not think that adding an aluminum
insert will help. Our goal was to have the shower start deep in the
'cone shielding' to minimize the number of particles that could be
emitted from its opening.
I would skip the Aluminum insert, but everything else looks good.
