[All_jlau] Central Computing Outage - Aug 6

There was an outage of JLab Central Computing Services today (8/6/2011) that started around noon.  The outage was the result of a software problem with a central file server.  We worked with the vendor to restore functionality of the file server and we began restoring central services around 1:15pm.  Most major services were restored by 2pm.

A patch was provided to us by the vendor and it was applied at 5:15pm, during the scheduled maintenance period.  Unfortunately, the patch did not resolve the underlying issue.  

At this point the file server is stable but functioning in a degraded mode.  Central Computing Services have been restored.  We continue to work with the vendor to implement a long term resolution to this issue.
