Jefferson Lab is seeking OHSAS 18001(Occupational Health and Safety
Assessment Series) recognition of its Occupational Safety and Health
Program. OHSAS 18001 is the international standard for safety & health
programs.
The registration process consists of three steps, and Jefferson Lab will
undergo the final step – a registration audit – Sept. 6-9.
The first two steps were positive, but it was noted that some employees
were not familiar with the lab's Environmental, Safety, Health and
Quality (ESH&Q) Policy. Please take a few minutes to familiarize
yourself with the updated policy (attached pdf).
During the registration audit, two assessors will visit work areas to
see if we are following our work planning and control process. If they
speak with you, please view the occasion as a safety observation and
answer their questions to the best of your ability. Do not be concerned
if you do not know the answer to a question. You are helping to identify
the strengths and weaknesses of our program.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Mary Logue
Associate Director- ESH&Q
P.S.: Safety and policy bulletin board maintainers are asked to post the
attached ESH&Q Policy statement on bulletin boards, in place of the
Jefferson Lab Policy Statement on Environmental, Safety, Health &
Quality dated 1/26/2009.
