  B-team Meeting Notes

    1 2009-12-16 Wed 13:55 or 2009-12-17 Thu 13:30 Agenda

Due to Hall-A collaboration meeting BTeam meeting may be moved to
Thursday. This will be the last meeting with me at the helm. Starting
in January 2010, BTeam will be led by Mike Tiefenback.

1.1 Hall-B Dark matter experiment Stepanyan

Stepan will introduce us to a proposal for a dark matter search in
Hall-B that will likely need some optics support.

      1.2 PRex requirements

      1.3 Shutdown Issues

    2 2009-12-09 Wed 14:00 Agenda--Notes ATTACH

2.1 Brief Hall Beam Quality Status

Let's keep this short this time?

    * Discussion on scheduling measuring vertical polarization
Hall-A wants another measurement of the vertical polarization. Now
is a good time as Hall-B is still recovering from their target
      issues.

      2.2 Hall-B g9-frost Pasyuk

Double spin, polarized photon beam and polarized target. Frozen spin
target. Temperature under 50mK. Target cannot handle electron beam, must
put in protection to prevent electron beam transport beyond the tagger
magnet.

    * Beam Requirements
Circular and linear polarized photons. For circular polarized
portion ?_Wien will need to set to for polarized beam in both. Can
the energy be increased by 5 MeV to put CEBAF at a magic energy?
          o 20nA
          o instability of beam current < 5%
          o ?_xy < 150 ? m
o calibration runs down to 50pA
          o bleedthrough < 10^-3
          o A_I < 5× 10^-4
    * Commissioning plans
5 days of commissioning (concurrent with PREX commissioning) are
      on the schedule.
          o electron beam tune up
          o diamond alignment
          o CLAS commissioning
o Commissioning of the gononiometer will take part at the
beginning of the run during the commissioning phase.
o Would like a common setup for both linear and circular
portion. Is this reasonable? Circular portion of the run
would be easier if the magnetic elements between 2C21 and
            tagger are active.
o No tune beam with photon beam blocker in place.
          o Active collimator? maybe?

2.3 Spring2010 run: Injection Chicane configuration Arne

Should we return to running with some M_56 component in the injection
chicane? Would this hide our sins? Make us less immune to injector
bunching issues? What other implications should be considered?

    * Discussion
o BPM screens need to be updated
o Model needs to be updated
o Phase offset in Injector cryomodules was a nagging issue
when operated in this configuration in the past. Can there
be a way to monitor the RF phase for these modules to make
sure the phase offset is in and stable?
    * TODO Generate ATLis Arne
      DEADLINE: 2010-01-25 Mon 09:21
Generate the ATLIS to reconfigure the injector chicane to have a
non-zero M_56 . Get the Optics of Alex, work with Carlino on the
BPM screens, work with Reza to understand the setup. Generate the
      download files. Execute the plan.

      2.4 Viewer limited BPMs Tief

Shift viewer limited mode, if the beam pulse is delay to coincide with
the first 4? sec afterpulse. This will put the viewer pulse in time with
the LINAC BPMs and all the other BPMS.

This is quoted as a firmware change.

2009-12-09 Wed
Roger has been requested to add this to his work list for the Winter
2010 down. At a lower priority compared to what is already on his list.

      2.5 PREX Requirements

Quick review of the PREX requirements which can be found at:
http://hallaweb.jlab.org/parity/prex/PREX_Beam _Requirements .pdf
<http://hallaweb.jlab.org/parity/prex/PREX_Beam_Requirements.pdf> Please
read the "Special Considerations" section carefully. We will need to
develop a plan as to how Accelerator is going to address these
requirements and considerations.

2009-12-10 Thu
Conversation with Kees, reminded me that the Hall-A collaboration
meeting will be next Wednesday. So it will be difficult to get PREX's
attention on Wednesday. This may mean that next week's Bteam meeting may
occur at a different time.

2.6 Large Synchronous Data (LSD) Effort Michele Arne

An effort to come to terms with the expected large data volume of the 12
GeV era epics system has been started. The RF systems, DDA, BLA systems
will have a large number of waveforms available for analysis. A small
team has been formed to develop requirements and analysis frameworks for
the data.

At present we are also thinking of adding a global event system
<http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/meetings/2006-06/Timing_Systems/Micro_Research_Timing_Components.ppt>.
So that the epics records can be synchronized.

The team will need help from Bteam on this project. For example:

   1. How well should the data be synchronized?
   2. Any thoughts on analysis frameworks? Root? R? ScientificPython?
   3. Any thoughts on data structure? Root Trees? netCDF?
