The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a
Research Scientist to work in the area of detector development for
experimental nuclear and particle physics. Candidates with outstanding
research potential and expertise in particle detector technology are
especially invited to apply. This position will be supported by a
Department of Energy research contract and is subject to the
availability of funds.
The successful candidate will take part in leading development, design
and prototyping of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) based trackers for 12
GeV experimental programs in hall A at Thomas Jefferson National
Laboratory (JLAB). Candidate will also have the opportunity to
participate in approved 12 GeV experiments in hall A and to develop new
physics programs. This position will be working at both University of
Virginia and JLAB.
A Ph.D. in Physics and at least one year of postdoctoral research
experience in an experimental nuclear or particle physics environment is
required. Candidate must have a strong background in particle detector
technology, detector readout electronics and data acquisition systems.
