August 4 Briefs Excerpts:

Tornado Warning Siren Test Set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5. Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise. Individuals planning to be in the Central Materials Storage Area (where the siren is located) while the test is taking place must have with them and wear two layers of hearing protection.

Publications Training and Refresher Course Set for Aug. 10
Did you know that Jefferson Lab must submit the final, peer reviewed, accepted manuscripts to the Department of Energy? They will be embargoed both in the laboratory’s publications system and in DOE's Pages for one year before being released to the public. Visit DOE Pages and read "Guidance for DOE-Funded Authors" for more details about the DOE Public Access Plan and how it affects Jefferson Lab authors. You can learn about this and other requirements in the next Publications Training and Refresher course on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. in CEBAF Center room F224-225. If you plan to attend, R.S.V.P. to Kim Edwards at kindrew at jlab.org by Aug. 9.

Mentors Needed for Governor's School Students
Apparently, the word has gotten out about what great mentors we have at Jefferson Lab, because there are a lot of applications for mentorships for the next school year! The students will be in their senior year of high school and are enrolled in the local Governor's School for Science and Technology. The requirements for mentors are to provide a project that can be completed in an academic school year with the student working five hours a week/35 hours a quarter (nine weeks). The mentorship culminates with a formal presentation of the project by the student in both written and oral forms, with the oral presentation given in a symposium format before a judging panel of local professionals. If you are interested in serving as a mentor or if you have any questions, contact Brita R. Hampton at hampton at jlab.org by Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Jefferson Lab Employee Tour Set for Thursday, Aug. 11
