ESH&Q
Pay Attention to Moving Objects
According to the National Safety Council, one of the leading causes of work-related injuries and deaths is contact with objects that fall, roll, fly, slide, slip and swing. In these situations, inattention to surroundings and being distracted can lead to injury, as does faulty equipment, lack of training, improper worker behavior, or lack of workplace assessments and housekeeping. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration notes that about 75 percent of “struck-by…” fatalities involve heavy equipment, so workers should be especially attentive when operating machinery and when working around it. This NSC webpage offers additional tips employers and employees can use to help prevent injury from contact with objects.
