COMPUTING
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 End of Life
Red Hat ended support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 in March 2017. Since that time,
the IT Division has been working to upgrade all workstations and desktops to at least RHEL 6, with a preference for RHEL 7. If you are using a desktop system that is running RHEL 5, you are encouraged to update the system to RHEL 7 as soon as possible. Additionally, the IT Division is working with owners of various web servers and database servers to also update these systems to RHEL 7. Later this year, IT personnel will begin removing internet access for desktops that have not been updated. If you have any questions or concerns about this notice, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Windows 7 End of Life Set for January 2020
If you have systems (desktops or laptops) with hardware that can only support Windows 7, plan now to replace those systems this year or in FY19. The IT Division is currently recommending Windows 10 for rebuilds, and the IT Division will no longer install Windows 7 on new or existing systems, starting in October 2018 . All builds and rebuilds will be Windows 10 only. For more information, see the webpage . If you have any questions or concerns about Windows 7 and the Windows 10 updates, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
