SALARY RANGE: $52,600 - $79,000 (PD)


Jefferson Lab is seeking a candidate for a two-year Post-Doctoral 
position in the laboratory’s Center for Advanced Studies of Accelerators 
(CASA). The incumbent will participate in design studies of a future 
electron-ion collider (JLEIC). The position will have a specific focus 
on developing analytical and computer simulation models for studying 
Space Charge and Collective Effects for the JLEIC Ion Complex. A 
specific outcome of the research will be the conceptual design of 
proof-of-principle experiments at Jefferson Lab’s Low Energy 
Recirculator Facility (LERF).

*Specific Duties and Responsibilities:*

  *   Perform required simulations of the JLEIC ion complex using
    established codes.
  * Develop improvements to simulation codes with benchmarking to
    existing codes.
  * Contribute to the development of a pre-conceptual design report for
    JLEIC.
  * Develop conceptual designs for proof-of-principle LERF experiments.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of general accelerator physics including beam 
optics, beam dynamics and instabilities is required. Candidates with 
direct experiences in applying numerical techniques to particle 
accelerators, familiarity, and fluency in a number of accelerator design 
and beam dynamics codes, simulation of beam dynamics including 
Collective Effects and Space Charge are particularly encouraged to apply.

The candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in Accelerator Physics or a 
closely related discipline.

·Ability to comprehend, formulate, and communicate highly abstract concepts
·Ability to express or exchange complex ideas by means of spoken and 
written communication
·Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and develop models

Physical Requirements

• Ability to get across various locations on the laboratory site and 
access work areas
• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods
• Visual capabilities sufficient to use computer workstations, read 
documents, and see safety alarms
• Auditory capabilities to hear safety alarms
